Cold Working with Fiaz Elson: 28th - 29th March 2020

Coldworking allows you to sculpt and reshape glass forms and surface texture using tools and processes that do not rely on heat. This technical course is for those wishing to learn how to finish glass pieces and emphasise the beauty of the form.

The 2-day workshop will teach you how to create different surface effects in your glass to bring out the interior to augment the exterior appearance, creating the poetry of light which is the hallmark of kiln cast glass.

You will learn how to use the cold working equipment from hand finishing techniques, flat-bed grinding, lathe, saw, cutting methods and sandblaster techniques to use in the casting process. You will also have the opportunity to use air-polishing tools to grind, cut into and polish the glass.

Our studio is well equipped with an extensive cold-working setup. Glass will be provided for students to work on.

The Glass Foundry, based in the Cotswold, is a professional studio in Stroud Gloucestershire.

Due to the nature of this course places are limited so please register your interest early. The course will be supported by a teaching assistant.

Expect an intensive, creative workshop, packed with information and possibilities.
